South Yorkshire’s reputation as a key location for international exports and imports has been enhanced with the opening of a brand new facility on the Barnsley/Wakefield border.

Leading international freight management company, 512 (Sheffield) Ltd, has expanded to open a site which will provide exporters and importers with a regional location to transport goods to thousands of overseas markets.

512 provides a full range of export and import services to businesses. It manages up to 320 export consignments a day to thousands of locations around the world, providing support with airfreight, seafreight, courier, trailer, documentation, training and insurance.

The new base is the third key location for the business in South Yorkshire, which also has a site based at the Sheffield International Freight Terminal (SH-I-F-T) on Grange Mill Lane, Sheffield and also Doncaster Robin Hood Airport.

512 as a group has witnessed a 38 per cent growth in trade in 2017 and is already seeing an 21 per cent increase on this figure in 2018 to date.

The expansion into Barnsley and Wakefield follows the company’s success in Sheffield and Doncaster and is the third stage of plans to open a further four offices in the next three years to continue the increase of export and import opportunities for business across the South Yorkshire region.

Karen Mosley, head of business development at 512, said: “We are thrilled to have opened our new facility, having witnessed huge success and growth of our sites in Sheffield and Doncaster we were keen to create more export opportunities across South Yorkshire, and Barnsley/Wakefield seemed the obvious choice.

“We are meeting more and more exporters and importers from this area and we saw a chance to capitalise on the opportunities this can provide, both for us and for those companies wanting to transport goods overseas.

“We are looking forward to building on our recent growth and plan to open more sites in the region in the coming years to further boost exporting from the area, as well as providing vital employment opportunities for local people.”

512 provides graduate training schemes and Ben Blackman, one of the company’s first ever graduates who has successfully completed both the graduate and management programmes over the last four years, will manage the new office.

A number of years ago 512 linked up with East Midlands Chamber of Commerce and Sheffield Chamber of Commerce to provide specialist support to students studying for the International Trade Operations and Procedures (ITOPS) qualification, to allow the students to build their knowledge of key operations in the international trade industry.
